Water Buffalo Cheese
Buffalo milk is naturally rich and creamy, giving cheeses made from it a full, smooth flavour. The exact taste and texture can vary depending on the type of cheese, from mild and creamy to more developed and savoury.
The biggest difference starts with the milk. It’s naturally richer in fat and protein than cow’s milk, which can give cheeses a rich, creamy texture and distinctive flavour. The final characteristics vary depending on the type of cheese and how it is made.
Water buffalo cheese can be enjoyed in many of the same ways as other cheeses. Serve it on a cheeseboard, add it to sandwiches and salads, use it in cooking, or simply enjoy it on its own.
Storage depends on the type of cheese. Keep cheese refrigerated and follow the storage instructions on the package for the best quality and freshness. Once opened, keeping it properly wrapped or sealed will help maintain its flavour and texture.
Some types of cheese can be frozen, although the texture may change slightly once thawed. For the best quality, we recommend following the storage instructions on the package and enjoying the cheese fresh whenever possible.
Water Buffalo Meat
Water buffalo meat has a rich, savoury flavour that is often compared to beef, while offering its own distinctive character. The flavour and texture can vary depending on the cut and how it is prepared.
Water buffalo meat is similar to beef in many ways, but it tends to be leaner. Different cuts can vary in texture and flavour, so preparation is important to getting the best result.
Cooking depends on the cut. Tender cuts can be prepared quickly using methods such as grilling or pan-searing, while tougher cuts are often better suited to slower cooking. For the best results, follow the cooking recommendations provided with your specific cut.

Curious About Our Water Buffalo?
No. Our water buffalo are housed in a barn where they have free access to fresh feed and water.
Yes! Water buffalo are naturally found in warmer, more tropical environments. Here at Kampkreek, they are housed in a barn where we can help keep them comfortable through Ontario’s changing seasons.
We are not certified organic. However, our animals are raised without hormones or drugs.
Our water buffalo stay comfortable through the winter in the barn, where they generate plenty of their own body heat. During the summer, the sides of the barn are opened to allow plenty of airflow, while the barn provides shade from the sun.
Our water buffalo are fed hay and other forages grown right here on our farm, along with a small amount of corn to give the meat a nice flavour finish. A simple, wholesome diet helps produce both the rich, creamy milk used in our dairy products and the high-quality meat we’re proud to offer.
